Never underestimate the power of goal setting. Goals can drive you to succeed if you set them correctly. Don't set your goals to high or you could become frustrated. The name of the game is making them attainable. They will give you something to strive for, and let you know what you need to work on. This will help bring each project to maturity much quicker than before. It is a way to self motivate when feeling unmotivated.

When to Move On?

As you move up in the ranks of the internet, it will become much harder to improve. Competition becomes exponential and instead of competing with individuals, you start competing with corporations. If you are up for this challenge then more power to you. If not, it could be time to start a new project.

What Happens After I Move On?

Don't confuse moving on with stopping work on that project. You do need to tend to it occasionally or you will suffer a loss in earnings. One lie that has been told over the years is “you need to be an expert to be a leader”, “you need to be of a certain age to be a leader”, “you need to be of a certain academic background to be a leader” and the list goes on.

There are various Internet business models that you can adopt:

Blogging – Carl Ocab is a leader in the blogging community, he has identified a niche and exercises his leadership on the same. Video Sharing Sites – Most people only know of youtube as the only free video sharing site. but there are a 1000 others out there. you can get a Youtube clone script to start your own community targeted to region or any other demographics. Small Is the New Big: focus on what the consumer wants, get local content for your college graduates, for recently wedded and have them share their videos on the world. focus on small communities and have the rest of the world wanting to join you.
Membership Site – Again you can create your own membership site using free scripts like wordpress and make your posts private such that only logged in members can view your posts.
Forums – With a number of scripts to choose from you can create your small forum and invite users to start contributing. At start you might need to be active by creating over 100 topics that will provoke response and watch your community grow.
Dating Website – There are many singles out there imagine making a site like singlesinyourcity.com and do an element of offline marketing where you orgarnize events and activities for your online communities to participate in.
Auction website – Again there is so much business in the local market. Don’t get angry at ebay if they have not started an auction targeting your country. You can take this as an opportunity and start one for your local community or region.
Social Bookmarking Site – With the increase of open source almost in every internet business category, today you can have your own bookmarking site in minutes. Every Marketer is looking for “do follow” back-links. Standard.co.ke is such a site made with pligg – I saw it on their footer. Your community will be excited with such a site because it’s easy to make it on the front-page of your Bookmarking site easily.

The hundreds of online opportunities out there, you don’t have to re-invent the wheel, just find a way of doing it differently by filling the gap. You don’t have to know html or complex programming languages. All you need to understand is the online business method and then you can outsource from experts with the least possible expense.

Monetization Strategies:

There numerous monetization strategies and each work to give results depending on various demographics:

Google Adsense - It’s the most popular monetization strategy out there. However, it can minimal earnings depending on the value of your community. For example, if you search the word “credit cards” on google.co.uk and the same keyphrase on google.sc .sc stands for Seychelles – Tiny islands in the Indian Ocean. What Is A Blog And How It Will Make You Money

This article is part of the “Start A Blog And Make Money” series.

Simply put it, a blog is a website that is often updated with content called “blog posts”. Most often, the latest blog post will be shown at the top of the blog.

Someone who blogs is called a “blogger”. When a blogger updates his blog, he is “blogging”.

(Wow, I’m seriously not used to formal-ish writing. I’m not even good at grammar! :-))

Blogging has evolved A LOT since it first came out. Here are some types of blogs you might have heard of:

Personal blog

When it first came out, people used blogs to rant about what happened to their day, what they think of or in other words, they use it like a diary – a web diary.

Niche blog

From the word “niche market” or a very specific market, niche blogs cater specific markets. That’s why there are blogs out there specifically talking only about dogs, politics, cars, technology, etc.

Niche blogs are also the best way to make money online. We’re going to talk about this in the next post.

Splog

Since blogs are a big hit and it gets a lot of traffic, other web masters take advantage of it and make “spam” blogs called splogs. Splogs mostly contain content grabbed from other sites without their permission. Then they leverage it by posting ads.

In short, splogs suck.

Vlog/video blog

Videos – they’re a big hit right now. Well simply because, it’s easier than writing and you can express stuff better.

That’s why people have started these “vlogs” or video blogs. Instead of articles, they post videos.

Microblog

To make it short, a microblog is a blog with short blog posts.

Twitter and Tumblr. They are good examples of a microblog.

The Blogosphere

The blogosphere is the word most people use to cite the overall community of blogs. Say, “The blogosphere is growing rapidly” so when you say the “make money online blogosphere” it calls for the bloggers who are blogging about “make money online”

From my personal experience, blogging is the easiest way to put content online. Almost all blogging softwares only requires you to fill up 2 forms, first for the blog post title and second for the blog post content – that’s it.

You can put almost anything on a blog

Articles, videos, audio, flash almost anything you could think of – remember it’s also a website.

You meet new people

This is possibly one of the best reasons why you should blog – you meet a lot of people.

If you have a niche blog, you’ll be able to meet bloggers who are in the same niche as you. Of course, you could turn those relationships to very profitable partnerships.

Quite frankly though, I’ve met a lot of wonderful people since I started blogging and I’m very thankful for that :)

Popularity

Most people blog for popularity alone. Now when you’re popular, it’ll be more easy to make money because you’ve got a following.

Do note that it’s optional to be popular. Because I know some people who just want the money but don’t want to be known. I understand that. But then again, I tell you, it’s more easy to make money when you’re popular.

Google LOVES blogs

Google LOVES websites that are often updated with content – and since with blogs, you can easily post content, Google loves em’

Therefore, it’ll be easier for blogs to battle out in Google’s search results.

How you’ll make money with a blog

The simple formula for making money on the internet is:

Traffic + Conversion = Money

(Sorry I didn’t make cool acronyms!)

Now since blogs are the easiest way to put content online, it can get you popular and Google loves em’ it’ll be easier for you to get Traffic – which is the hardest of the 2 in the formula.

The conversion part is how you “convert” those traffic into cash, which we will be discussing later after you’ve set up your blog.

Last December I asked in a poll, “How Much Do You Currently Make Monthly?“.

I think it’s very important to survey your market.

You wouldn’t know what you’re going to get – what you think your market is might not be what it REALLY is.

So without further ado, here are the results…

Now since almost 50% is making $0-$100/month, starting tomorrow until the next 2 weeks, I’m going to post EVERYTHING someone new to making money with blogging will need to start a blog.

I’m not that good at teaching (obviously, I can’t even get my spelling and grammar write!) but I’ll do my best ;-)

The posts will vary in text and video. It’ll be advance strategies that will take new bloggers from 0 to where they want to go.

I’ll discuss everything from why you should start a blog, what is a blog, how to find a profitable niche (a really profitable one, this time no guessing!), how to PROPERLY find keywords that will get you trafic, how to get a domain name, how to get a hosting account and install your own WordPress blog.

Basically everything you need to make money blogging.

It’s already out there!

Some people might say that “Hey Carl, it’s already out there! We want something new from you!”.

Yes, it is out there – but it’s scattered. It’s from one website to another. From one emaill to another. From one ebook to another.

Just switching and switching will cost you time and will definitely distract you to do other “projects” leading you to the multi-tasking trap.

So here’s how it’s going to be…

After completing all the posts, I’m going to compile it on this page. Tailor some graphics and hope it looks good.

What I really want is to structure it so anyone who is just starting out can have a step by step guide.

The Costly Mistake That Many Bloggers Have Committed

I see a lot of bloggers giving the tip “Traffic now, monetize later” then telling that it’s more important to concentrate on getting traffic and building readership first BEFORE you monetize your blog.

I don’t agree.

Now here’s the 3 reasons why you SHOULD monetize your blog before even launching it:

Yes it is important to get traffic and build a good relationship to your readers…

But why not do it while monetizing your blog?

It only takes several minutes to setup some simple monetization for a blog – or if you’re like me who can’t figure out HTML, it’s going to take a couple of hours but after that it’s good to go :-)

Why you shouldn’t monetize your blog now

There’s a downside though.

Monetizing your blog can make you a bit statsaholic and make you check your Affiliate account/Adsense account from time to time. While you see cents everyday, it drives your focus of generating good content for your blog away.

But the way I see it, it’s a matter of discipline. Time will come, you’ll have to monetize your blog. So why not start disciplining your self to stop checking your accounts and prioritize tasks?

What Makes Some People So Successful At Internet Marketing?

I must admit this blog has been inactive.

Today I’ll revive it – and this time, it’s on.

The last couple of months I got the most severe case of… guess what?

MULTI TASKING.

Seriously, I’ve been juggling 5 projects. Add to that the holidays plus school work (I’m at senior year, high school)

All this time I’ve been blind. Multi tasking…

BUT with all those work, believe it or not, my earnings decreased.

The TRUE Secret

With that experience, I realized how important the tip “focus” is. I knew it before and I’ve heard of it a lot of times but I never really paid that much attention to it.

But before that, let me show some examples (cause i find it funny that even before, focus really IS the true secret)

300 – 300 Spartans fought thousands of Persian soldiers by focusing on one little narrow pass called Thermopylae. They funneled all the Persian soldiers in one pass and concentrated on only one side.

Blitzkrieg - The infamous blitzkrieg, focus on one single area and flood em’ with tanks, soldiers and air power. Served the German pretty well.

NBA – Ok that’s a weird jump but I think that also proves that FOCUS can be, should be applied anywhere.

Most players on the NBA before (way back! The time when they didn’t have a 3 point line) were all rounded. To play you have to be good at dribbling, shooting, rebounding and all skills. But look how players play today, each player focuses on 1 skill. One is good at dribbling, one at shooting, one at rebounding then they put it all together. They play better.

Here’s The Game Plan…

Now let’s put that into a business perspective. Let’s say you’ve got 3 projects. Each project consists of 3 weeks of work, on the 3rd week you make money.

The multitasker, let’s call him Thomas just for the sake of sounding cool, would do:

Week 1 – Project 1
Week 2 – Project 2
Week 3 – Project 3
Week 4 – Project 1
Week 5 – Project 2
Week 6 – Project 3
Week 7 – Complete Project 1 and Make Money!
Week 8 – Complete Project 2 and Make Money!
Week 9 – Complete Project 3 and Make Money!

That means it took Thomas 9 weeks before he started making money.

Now here’s Hocus Focus Max would do:

Week 1 – Project 1
Week 2 – Project 1
Week 3 – Complete Project 1 and Make Money!
Week 4 – Project 2
Week 5 – Project 2
Week 6 – Complete Project 2 and Make Money!
Week 7 – Project 3
Week 8 – Project 3
Week 9 – Complete Project 3 and Make Money!

The Blind Side

(Coincidental title, heh. Saw the movie btw – very touching and inspirational)

To me this is very crucial because I’ve missed this for a long time.

As you can see, Thomas makes money on weeks 7, 8 and 9 but Hocus Focus Max makes money on weeks 3, 6 and 9. That means Max makes money earlier and if Max is even smarter, he’ll use that money to finish the other projects faster.

Thomas however, makes money on the last 3 weeks – but that doesn’t include the time between switching projects to work on.

There are 4 reasons why you’re not profiting online:

1. Lack of visitors

If no one knows what you’re selling, then obviously you won’t make any sales.

The life line of any online business is getting traffic to the website.

2. Unwanted Offer

Even if you have tons of traffic, it’s totally useless if you’re selling something no one wants to buy.

Persuading someone to buy something they’re not interested in, is not easy. Make sure you sell what people want.

The Business Model

1. Create an ebook that the market wants. Do your research in forums and survey your list. Find out what questions and problems people have and create a product to help them.

2. Provide links inside the ebook to products with your affiliate link. This will give you back end profits on autopilot.

3. Add videos, interviews and workbooks to your offer so that you can sell at a higher price.

4. Create an affiliate center for your ebook. Provide the best marketing material you can to support your affiliates. Make their lives as easy as possible so that they will promote your ebook.

5. Give the best possible commission you can afford and spend a lot of time finding affiliates to promote your product. Your affiliates will give you the targeted traffic you need to make sales.

6. With your list of customers, create another ebook that is related to your previous information product and sell it to them. Keep 100% of the profits.

7. Contact your affiliates again for your second ebook. They will promote for you and send more traffic to your website. You should have more new customers to add on to your list.

8. Rinse and repeat.

There Are Always 2 Sides To Every (Internet Business) Story

The idea of building and running a profitable Internet business from the comfort of your own home sounds great, and I've seen a lot of people get very excited at the thought of doing this.

As great and awesome that may sound, one has to carefully think about the effects of building an Internet business, both from the positive and negative aspects.

You might think that there can ONLY be positive effects since everyone out there is talking how they are making 5 or 6 figure per month easily and effortlessly.

Well, nothing could be further from the truth.

Of course there are going to be NEGATIVE effects as well. Not only in business, in everything that we do there are always going to be 2 sides to every coin.

So what kind of negative effects are we talking about?

You see, when trying to build a successful online business, 99% of the time you're NOT going to make any money at all when you're just getting started.

Why?

Because you're still learning the ropes of the game.

Let me ask you this question: "Let's suppose you have never played tennis before, but you want to be good at it. Can you be good at the sport in a very short period of time?"

The answer is NO!

The same thing goes when trying to build a successful Internet business from scratch without much knowledge and experience. Heck, it's not just about building an Internet business, it applies to every endeavor that you're trying to learn and conquer.

Business in general, not just Internet or online business, is about investing for the future. I'm not talking about investing in shares, bonds, options or the likes. I'm talking about investing in our business NOW so that the business generates profits for us in the future.

Like what I've said earlier, when you're just starting out to build your Internet business, your income for the first few months will most likely be zero. Even if you've managed to earn any money during this time, they will most likely be pennies.

You work on your business 30 or 40 hours per week and you don't see any results. What do you do? Do you give up like most people do? Or do you continue to work hard and fine tune your business along the way?

You may only start to see results a year or two from now, but when you've successfully made that first dollar, then it's going to be easier to make subsequent dollars.

Once you hit the next breakthrough in your business, your business has the potential to grow exponentially.

In fact, it's very possible to grow your business exponentially while working less. You do this by having systems and quality team members in place to run the business WITHOUT you.

This is what I call the entrepreneur spirit.

Contrast this when you work as a full time employee for a company. You get paid a fix salary each and every month. You have peace of mind and can concentrate on your work because you know that at the end of the month you're going to get paid by the company.

You get your full time salary at the end of the first month, at the end of next month, the month after, and so on. However, your income increases on a linear basis (usually only once per year).

Initially when just starting out, most people would rather be in the full time employee position because of the fix salary they can bring home every month. However as time goes on and the business keeps on improving, people would no doubt choose to be in the business owner position rather than just an employee whose income increases only linearly.

But that's just how it works.

Entrepreneurs are rewarded for their determination and perseverance during the toughest of times, and are rewarded when their business starts to take off and make them even more money while working less.

Employees who have been enjoying consistent, fixed income continue to bring in that amount for the rest of their working lives while still having to work the normal 9 to 5.

Clearer picture

Having read this far, you should now have a clearer picture of the risks and rewards associated with building and running your own online business. Don't simply jump in and get your feet wet at the thought of making money online from your Internet business. Consider carefully the advantages as well as disadvantages as outlined above.

Again, there's always 2 sides to every story…

Without further ado, let’s jump in to the article…

Only 8 words on what marketing is and how it applies to your internet marketing business.

When I started out, I too did not get marketing right. I thought that marketing is selling. I also thought that it included advertising, slogans, logos and design of packages. Not wrong, but too narrow a definition.

I dug the site of the American Marketing Association and here's how they define it: ”Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large.”

That's 27 words in there and I don't think that explanation is clear enough for you to kick start your internet business. Wikipedia's definition is even longer – 3 times that long.

Here's my 8 word definition of marketing: Providing More Value To More People More Often.

Remember these words: Value, People, Often. And don't forget, More.

Let's chop these down.

Provide More Value

Most people are uneasy with selling. In fact, most are afraid to sell. They think that selling is for the fast talker who would do everything to get the sale. And sadly, the sales industry is littered with such people.

Selling is helping people. Selling is giving value. And value is perceived from the customer’s end. What’s In It For Them?

In selling, you make sure that you and your customer both win in the deal. It’s “quid pro quo.” I give you this – you give me that. That is why in your salesletter, you say that if the customer is not satisfied, he can return the product and you will promptly refund his money.

Most of the internet marketers are selling information. Information in the form of ebooks, audio or video. To increase the perceived value, some smart marketers have even converted these digital products into physical stuff. (Even in the digital economy, people still prefer things they can touch and thumb through). Look at the 3-ring binders, manuals, and CDs they are sending.

To More People

Remember Kidblogger's formula for making money online? It's called MARCOM. Market Reach + Conversion = Money.

Market Reach = website visitors + email subscribers

The more people you drive to your site, the more money you make. Dozens of ways to do this. Think of Social Bookmarking, Press Releases, Video Marketing, Guest Blogging on authority sites, PPC, Article Marketing, Blog Commenting, Forum Marketing, Tarantula Linking, etc.

Or just go over Carl's 69 ways to build backlinks and drive hundreds of visitors to your site. And if you're in for the long term in your internet business, don't forget to capture your website visitors contact information.

More Often

Some marketers call this increasing the lifetime value of the customer. You've spent a great amount of time getting that customer, so why not make the most of it. Don't ever think of making only one sale to your existing customer – think of multiple sales.

One brilliant way to do this is make many offers to that existing customer over time. That's where the autoresponder comes in. I can only recommend two: Aweber and Getresponse.

You load related marketing messages in your autoresponder. At a predetermined time and sequence, these messages get into the inbox of your subscribers and customers. If you plan to send 3 emails a month, that's equivalent to 36 messages a year! All messages are preloaded with links to your products or affiliate offers.

With an autoresponder you can also broadcast special messages from other people's products. It's hard to imagine a successful internet marketer without a contact capture method provided by an autoresponder.

Another way to increase lifetime value is providing residual offers. This is where your customer pays you over and over for the same offer. Membership sites and web hosting are some examples.
